Aguirre Spring Campground is an established BLM campground in the Organ Mountains east of Las Cruces, New Mexico. The campground has 55 individual sites and two group sites. (The group sites are available by reservation for $50/night). in several different loops.
Many sites are fairly close together, but some do offer a reasonable degree of privacy. Most of the pads are not level as this campground seems to be designed for tent campers rather than van or RV campers. This campground is not recommended for large rigs because of the steep, winding access road and small parking areas.
Vault toilets are located throughout the campground. The facilities were very clean at the time that we were there, though the locks were broken on several toilet doors.
This is a high-altitude campground in the Organ Mountains. The views are stunning, but be prepared for mountain weather.
Aguirre Spring Campground also offers hiking opportunities with several trailheads at the campground. These include the Baylor Canyon and Pine Tree Trails.
NOTE: Gate at entrance to campground road is locked in the evening.
Directions
Take Highway 70 east from Las Cruces over San Augustine Pass, and then turn right onto Aguirre Springs Road. Follow Aguirre Springs Road for six miles into the campground. The road is one-way and steep with switchbacks for the last two miles.
