Details
The Snake River View Rest Area on Eastbound Interstate 84 in Fruitland, Idaho is a traditional highway rest area that permits overnight parking. This site offers typical rest area amenities like restrooms with running water and picnic tables with nice shelters.
One feature that sets the Snake River View Rest Area apart is its large pavilion overlooking the Snake River with a view back into Oregon. This site has a deserved reputation of offering travelers spectacular sunset views over the Snake River.
Idaho allows parking for up to 10 hours at Interstate rest areas. This is wonderful for overnight sleeping. This rest area does tend to be quite noisy unfortunately, both from Interstate traffic and idling trucks in the rest area. As long as you are able to sleep through the noise – or have ear plugs – this is a good spot for an overnight stay.
The rest area does have an information center inside, along with brochures and maps that may be of interest to travelers. On the morning that we were there they also had coffee available for a donation. Debra took advantage of this and we had a nice conversation with the gentleman at the information booth.
One challenge with accessing the Snake River View Rest Area is that if approaching from Oregon, Google Maps will attempt to take you down a dead end road on the Oregon side of the river. The rest area is located at Milepost 1 on Interstate 84 east in Idaho.

Good to know. We plan to go from Puget Sound to Yellowstone via I-90 and plan to come back that way in the next week or so. Good to plan ahead. So much to see over there and breaks in nice place are welcome.
